π§ What to Do If Your Air Conditioner Is Leaking Water
Summary:
If you notice water dripping from your air conditioner, donβt panic, this guide will help you take quick, safe steps to prevent further damage and identify possible causes before contacting our maintenance team.
π¨ Step 1: Turn Off the Air Conditioner
To prevent more water from leaking, turn off your AC unit immediately using the remote control or the power switch on the wall.
β οΈ Caution: Avoid touching any electrical parts or wires near the unit.
If water is leaking close to an outlet or plug, keep the area dry and do not attempt to turn on nearby switches.
π§Ό Step 2: Protect the Surrounding Area
Use towels or a bucket to catch the dripping water and protect your floor, walls, or furniture from moisture damage.
Place a towel / water absorbent material or plastic tray / bucket/ water container under the leak.
Move any electronics, rugs, or furniture away from the area.
If the leak is heavy, open nearby windows to help with drying and ventilation.
π‘ Tip: Avoid using the air conditioner until the cause is identified to prevent water damage or mold growth.
π Step 3: Check for Simple Causes
Before calling maintenance, check these common and easy-to-identify reasons for AC water leaks:
1. Clogged Drain Hose
If the small white drain hose (usually located near the outdoor unit or balcony) is blocked by dust or algae, water may overflow inside the room.
π You can gently remove visible dirt around the hose opening if accessible.
π‘ Tip: If you are unsure, cannot locate the hose, or the blockage seems deep, skip this step and proceed to submit a maintenance request form. Do not use sharp tools or apply pressure to the hose.
2. Condensation from Low Temperature Settings
If your air conditioner is set too cold (for example, 20Β°C or lower), the difference between the room temperature and coil temperature can cause excess condensation inside the unit.
This water buildup can overflow and leak from the indoor unit.
π Try setting your AC to 26β28Β°C, or use dehumidify (βDryβ) mode instead of full cooling.
Running the AC at a very low temperature for long periods, especially in humid Okinawa weather, can easily lead to water dripping.
3. Dirty Filter
A clogged air filter can cause freezing inside the AC and melting water leaks later.
π If you feel comfortable, proceed to clean the AC filter by following this useful guidance on how to clean AC filter.
β οΈ Do not open deep internal parts or attempt to unscrew panels.
If you are unsure or uncomfortable, skip this step and proceed to submit a maintenance request form.
π« Step 4: Prevent Further Damage
Keep the AC off until maintenance checks the unit.
Avoid wiping inside the unit, moisture inside can cause short circuits.
Use a fan or dry cloth to help dry nearby areas.
If water spreads along the wall or ceiling, try to take a photo or short video for reference.
π‘ Helpful Reminder:
Leaks often occur due to humidity buildup, clogged hoses, or seasonal use changes β regular filter cleaning every 2β3 weeks can help prevent future issues.
π Step 5: Contact Saki Corporation
